I have been planning my road trip for SIX months and cannot fathom having to cut it short so I can drive for four days to be in court for jury selection. I am happy to do it a few weeks later. Please cross your fingers and pray that my request is honored...

And you can give it a posthumous award for being Most Illogical Iris Society In Western Illinois. Give It A MIIS!

Just buried my MIL last month. She was involved in many things... President on down the line of organizations ..... very few people attended her funeral. Goes to show that people really don't care. I'm with IL... who cares years from now what others who don't know you think of you. Not to mention that you are dead.... so what does it matter?

We all feel like this sometimes. We all know this is not true of you. You have had a lot on your plate lately with the move and all. Do something fun for yourself! Hope tomorrow is better!

well I see that I am posting ANOTHER rant/peeve, haha. But here goes:

To folks in flower societies: You cannot ignore websites, blogs, email communication, and the promotion of your organization through electronic means. Really.

When you've got a great volunteer who professionally produces websites and voluntarily produces your website at no cost, you MUST WORK WITH HER and give her information to place on the website. Truly, she cannot make up stuff, you have to give her content.

When you don't update your website with even basic information (place/time/dates of shows and sales and meetings) and will not even send this information via email it is no wonder no one attends.

If you yourself do not "do" the web, please understand that 90% of the world does do it. We can give you your information in paper form, but it is a pain. I am not always going to mail you stuff. Look it up on the website. Please.

See? Ha!--that's Zackly what you get for living in Zurra--Instant Jungle! The only one's who appreciate being here are those Fanatical Osessive mow-O-holics who mow and mow and mow and mow and mow some mo', like there's no tomorrow! But the soil and climate ain't no good for corn n' beans n' beans n' corn. Ha. See? Hope that helps you some.

Are they oblivious, or deliberately rude? I encountered yet another person in a public space who either doesn't see, or pretends not to see, that there are others waiting.

This time it was in the local coffee shop where, like most of these places, the creamer/sugar area is all in one tiny counter area. Middle aged female customer in front of me pours the creamer in her coffee, but there's really no room for anyone else to move up til she leaves. Instead, she finishes and then decides to take out her cell phone and stand there and read her email or Facebook or god knows what. Her head is down and I finally get her attention by moving up as close to her as I could and not be accused of accosting her. Then she lets out a sigh and moves out of the way. Oy.

Hard to tell sometimes. Personal experience tells me it is often societal: people who believe their existence is marginal in real life are, I think, out of the habit of thinking about others. A longer explanation of that is suited for another thread. Here in the Upper Midwest, people who've been born and raised here seem to be trained from birth to keep at least half an eye out for the presence of others. That absolutely was not my experience living on the East Coast.

I also have a theory about how people divide their attention and that the vast majority are capable of jumping from task/distraction to task/distraction, but not of true multitasking.
Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome. - Booker T. Washington
