Healthcare has really changed. I haven't worked in the ICU for many years. But when I was about to quit to have children, they were having the people who usually deliver the food trays, learn to draw the blood! Nurses were no longer to draw the blood.
I'm finding it everywhere........it's the less skilled people who are filling the front office jobs and answering all the phones at the various insurance companies. Many times, I can't even understand what they're saying..........plus at times, they don't seem to know what they're talking about.

Freshstart..........if a receptionist had ever said that to me, I would have immediately asked for the manager. That's totally unacceptable.

I think health care can be really varied from place to place. I learned long ago (as an R.N.) to never go to small town hospitals.
I'm wondering for those of you who are unhappy with the care you're getting, does your insurance allow you to change clinics/doctors?

The world is changing and it makes me sad. Doctors are mostly businessmen now, and people who shouldn't be their representatives are in the front now.
    Too many people.......too much everything........
I have had a lot of doctors, and am very happy with my present one. But he is the exception rather than the rule.

DH is a physician and he feels the same way. So many doctors don't know much, and aren't really interested in doing a good job. Around here, a lot of the physician's groups have been bought out by the big hospitals, and they also get pushed around by upper management. It's like a huge machine that is just running over everyone...........

My old school general practitioner retired. To show what kind of guy he was...he opened up a free clinic for uninsured people.

Anyway, another less talented but very well intentioned doctor took over his practice.... I wasn't overwhelmed by her expertise but I was satisfied with her effort. Well, the healthcare act seemed to inspire her to give up her practice and so she became a hospitalist.

I moved on to another doctor who was taking new patients. Well, I never saw the doctor.....all physicians assistants. Billing was all screwed up, insurance denials were more frequent.....outside labs were billing me for covered expenses......prescriptions were being called in wrong. I got sick of it and fired her. Told her that her services weren't needed anymore.

Off to to another doctor. Sometimes you just have to shake your head.

I'm just starting to be doubtful because my list of experiences happened at four different places, within the last month. The one place that has an awesome, just awesome receptionist, a competent staff, extremely reasonable rates and hasn't done one thing to make me wonder what I'm doing in their office? My Mexican Dentist. Three Cheers for Dr. Martinez and $45 for perfect pearly whites.

I was going to ask about/suggest Mexico, KIB. I see you're way ahead of me.

I haven't considered Mexico for other doctors. Perhaps I should.

Crazy driver tactic du jour: drivers who want to take the exit but also want to drive in the fast lane until the last second. Then, no attempt to signal or merge, just drive up next to the car that's in line to exit and start honking their horn, like "let me in right now"!
I've had this happen 3 times in the last year. Am I missing something - was there an announcement that it's okay for drivers to bully others off the road?
It just happened again this morning during rush hour. Were only 2-3 cars behind me, so it would have been easy for this driver to ease up and merge. But apparently, because I didn't jump out of their way, it made them mad enough to get on the on-ramp behind me and then gun their engines and swerve around and pass me, just missing my car by inches. I laid on the horn for several miles until they finally moved to another lane. This car came from my neighborhood so I'm really hoping it was a one-off, but if I see it anywhere near me again I'm getting a photo of their license plate and reporting them.

Sheesh, I know rush hour is crazy but now it's becoming life threatening...

where I worked was near a very busy 4 way intersection, the one light was absurdly long but it did always turn eventually. People would start honking at the first driver to take a Left on Red and a couple of times, I was in the next lane and the second driver would "tap" the bumper of the first car to really drive home that they needed to break the law and go left on red. Sometimes I didn't see damage, the light turned and the poor first guy got the hell outta there without even checking for damage. Once it was an Escalade vs an ancient Neon. Escalade taps Neon, bumper falls off, Neon driver tries to pull over and the Escalade took off, with a constant honking! So this young guy is trying to get his bumper out of the intersection, everyone is beeping and swearing at him, I offered to stay to be a witness and he said, "don't bother, I can't afford my insurance to go up anymore, I'll duct tape it." That kind of crap is just so unnecessary and maybe you save 45 secs on your commute? Is it better to have that 45 seconds everyday by kind of being a douche or to stay calm at a notoriously slow intersection and get to work seconds later?

Try driving in Houston, TX , it will make you appreciate anywhere else on earth except maybe New York City or also LA. The sign in Texas reads, " Buckle up your kids. 2214 killed this year on Texas highways." That was before the school bus got ran off the overpass and killed two school age kids.

When I read that I assumed that it was children killed. That figure was all fatatlities for a particular year in any age.

They just do so much driving. I prefer cities that are more walkable or just simply do not require so much driving.

It's the same announcement that declares it's fine for everyone to do a U-turn anywhere at any time, while the rest of us slow to a halt until the intersection is clear of the circling fool.

No seriously Lainey, that's bad stuff. I haven't run into that.
