I am not going that far again because if I have an accident and my medical record says I'm only allowed to drive 5 miles, I am screwed, we could lose this house and someone could get hurt. But finally some freedom!
That's certainly something to celebrate! (Although I can't really see the logic in their assessment...(Insert head-scratching emoji here)

I kind of figured it would still be a cut and dry no. I am surprised at the yes but with limits because just because I am near home, I can still have an accident. I think that part of her rational was about my forgetfulness and that I get lost in my own development. IDK her thinking, I'm just gonna go nice and slow and safely.

I wondered about that because I drive within that distance at low-traffic times of day, and I notice that low traffic can change to the traffic from hell in about two minutes' time. But I'm very glad you have a bit more freedom!

At your next visit could you ask to have it increased to 10 miles, so you could "legally " drive to appointments? That would give you a little more freedom. I would probably even say "so I could be legal" coming here...." I think they just pick a number and maybe he would be willing to pick a little bigger one.

Edited to add: I am very inspired by the grace in which you appear to handle a not great situation. Hang in there, dear.

I don't have to see her again until Oct, I plan to ask then unless it's going so great I think I can go further sooner.

thanks for saying that because most of the time I feel like a big ol' whiner

You are not a whiner! you have had a huge bad health condition handed to you, what a shock it must be. Your writing about your life is very engaging.

I volunteer doing migrating birds counts in the springtime. Our station is a slightly isolated place in the foothills that requires a half mile hike. It's an interesting project and we usually get a few visitors who come to watch or help. Today, an older couple and their son and daughter in law spent a couple of hours. Turns out they are a professional performing group of singers. At a slow time they gathered together and sang the old stand-by, "I'll Fly Away", acappella. If your not familiar with it, it's an old spiritual song or hymn that's been adopted by blue-grass and country groups. Not the best acoustics, but it sounded appropriate and nice.
