Nothing like ringing in the New Year by starting a major painting project! We are taking a break for lunch and admiring our new Sunset Glow (Valspar) walls and Ocean Soul (Valspar) wood trim in the kitchen/family room/den area. The room has 12.5 ft. ceilings, tile floor and a loft and is heated by a wood stove. It tends to feel cold even when it is fairly warm. Having such a warm color on the walls is already making it seem warmer. I have always wanted to live in a place that had really strong, rich color!

I'm jealous! You picked a paint and painted!! I've been in such a state of "paralysis by analysis" and I'm awash in paint chips. We also need warm colors in our house, as it's north-facing. I promised DH I'd buy the paint by April so we can get moving!!

I love the two colors you picked, and I'm sure they go really well in your house.

I am circling paint colors right now for our
Hermann house. DH thinks I am jumping the gun, but I know when that contractor starts, the need for decisions will come at me fast and furious.

At the moment I am in favor of having our contractor finish out this house as a white box, and then we take over with paint, floors, cabinetry. Ugh I SWORE I wouldn't do this! But DH is good at finish work. I have a fantasy that someone we know, a native of Hermann and who is a retired professional painter, may want a job and he could live in our Hermann house with his dog while he paints it. He regularly visits his mother in the nursing home there.

The last 5 houses we just picked the colors and hired someone to paint before we moved in. A crew can do it in a day or two. I would resist the urge to do it yourself IL or you will have another house that’s never done.

I've done it myself and I've hired people to paint--but only when we were selling houses and I wanted it done right and I considered it an investment towards getting a better price on the house. I hate spending a few thousand dollars to pay someone for something I could do myself. DH and I are decent painters.

I know! Dont let me do this!

actually, painting walls goes fast It is the woodwork that takes time.

i stupidly talked,to DH about building the cabinetry I want in my bedroom because commercial pieces are $3500 and are STILL made of MDF. For that price I am not doing MDF.

But I think there is a compromise here somewhere. DH works with Amish cabinet makers who build nice things out of solid wood, so,here’s hoping we can go that route.

I looked up the colours just now and it sounds like the sky and desert tones combined and gorgeous, very rich colours. Will you share photos sometime please, SQ?
