My rave for today is that at almost 50, I am finally confident in myself that I can be bare faced on the weekends... sometimes.

@Iris... after posting those pictures, I found this one which sums up his life in a nutshell. Sitting by the fire while he meticulously bathes himself.

Just got my first cataract eye surgery. One week later 20/20 in that eye and I could see most of the 20/15 line. Now I a happily waiting for the second one at the end of this week.

Super easy, simple, fast, no pain. Only discomfort is when they pull off the tape holding the drape to the face. Wish I had not waited even one day. I have worn glasses for 60 years.

Sweetana, good job. DH went from having super bad eyesight all of his life to nearly 20/20 after cataract surgery. This is truly one of the modern miracles of medicine.

sweetana- congratulations! I am thankful every day for the surgery! Having 6 pairs of readers from the drug store everywhere in the house and car is the only down side! BUT! I don't have glasses at all as of now. Might succumb to progressives if I can't pass the drivers' eye exam without them, but so far I've been thrilled every day to be glasses free.

    Good news indeed, Sweetana!

This morning when walking my dog in the local cemetery with large trees as per my usual routine for some time, visiting with the other regulars, some facing serious health challenges and others just glad to be about on a cooler morning, I commented to one couple about the unique, fun, supportive community feeling that exists. They agreed with enthusiasm with the DH saying, "You come here and things are 'normal' and friendly". We laughed about an informal daily gathering in a cemetery as being normal but it is. During lockdown, it was part of our bubbles which included the maintenance staff.
Newcomers gradually get to know each other, where we live, where we came from, family situation, share recipes, advice based on experience, successes and challenges, etc. It is a unique community. Some of the regulars join in the conversations, others don't; some have dogs to walk, some don't. Some are young and others very old and frail. I have learned to mention if I am going away for a few days as they discuss who is going to check on me if I am missing too long. It struck me today as kind of neat how human beings can be quite remarkable social, tolerant creatures. Wish more of the world was like this.
As Cicero said, “Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all the others.”
