What a nice story, Tybee. It's so nice to read about fabulous family events, etc. Thanks for sharing.

She went walking out with it cradled against her protectively, like a baby. So yesterday she made a fabulous salad in it and I complimented her on it and she started laughing and said they had been fighting over it, and we all laughed about that. It's become sort of a family joke but also an instant heirloom, since the moment I saw it, I wanted her to have it--they entertain a lot, and it's beautiful, and I never have that many people over. What is great is she already cherishes it, and I get to visit and see this happy family around her table, the way I always dreamed.

    She is the best.
That's wonderful, Tybee. I had a great relationship with my in-laws and always considered myself fortunate in that.

Good for you! It feels nice to get out and do some of those things we have missed.

I am so happy to be in the Rio Grande area of Texas versus the miserable, cold north. 80 degrees, sunny and breezy compared to <30 degrees, overcast, snow and darkness descending before 5pm. Surprisingly, most people here are wearing masks. At the senior park residents are vaccinated. I feel more comfortable here where we can congregate outside as well. Win-win all around.

Went to an obscure birding spot today and saw a black bellied whistling duck… very cool.

That's great! I know you were so eager to get away for this winter. I'm glad you were able to make it happen!

Granddaughter has reached age of 26 months where she goes to bed and did not fuss, slept all night. It was getting challenging for me, Ole granny was getting to old to deal with crying and fussing on the nights I have her

I realize I do this particular thing religiously whenever I see people panhandling around Santa Fe: when I am at home and go into my Quicken program to track the day's expenditures, I log in the $2.00 I donate to panhandlers and I also put a quick note in the memo area. For instance, today I gave $2 to the guy with the cardboard sign that said "dreaming of a cheeseburger," which was then noted in the memo column when I got home. I do spend time each day thinking about the homeless people I see all over the place panhandling. Last week I gave $5 to a family with a little girl standing in the entrance of the Walmart parking lot, and marked it appropriately in my memo column. I think it helps me humanize these people and their plight. I wish I could afford to do more. I wish I could give out $50 bills and really make some sort of difference in someone else's life and provide at least some comfort for the day or night.

Yet other days I have to harden my heart and stare past them as I sit at the traffic light, waiting for it to turn green. I cannot fix this huge problem on my own but I always feel like I should do more, somehow.
