I sent my first question to a local city councilman. He responded with a very clear answer and we had a short email discussion. Wow.
Turns out he is now the Vice Chairman of the Council and slated to become the Chairman. I liked him before and more now.
The question was about some misinformation that a city employee provided during a televised advisory meeting regarding "Christmas bonuses". I used to watch these meetings a lot and might need to see more of them.
I’m glad that you’ve got a clear answer and I hope the answer was what you wanted to hear.
I remember when one of the tax supported institutions in St. Louis came out with “year end bonuses” based on their own defined metrics.
I thought that was stupid. Aping the business world that gives out bonuses based on productivity i.e., financial bottom line of a company, does not seem a good role for tax supported organizations that do not have a bottom line they have to earn. Well, they don’t directly earn it anyway.
Turns out there were no "Christmas Bonuses". However, I found out they are getting two 13% raises to help get more people to work in hard to fill areas. This means permanent money and not any one time bonus (which did not exist anyway). THis was city government anyway and the employees in question were under a union contract. No idea where the employee got their info or maybe someone was playing a trick on him/her. Sigh.
ps: they are also trying to hire homeless needing jobs and those with a criminal past. Jobs need strong back, compassion for animals and common sense.
It suddenly occurred to me today as I was letting my mind wander that the professional guys who make me laugh the most are all named “Dave.”
Dave Chapelle. David Spade. David Letterman. David Sedaris.
Dave Rubin doesn’t make me laugh exactly but he provided a bright spot in conservative discourse a couple of years ago for me although I am kinda off him at the moment.
I wanted to buy a specific item for my youngest's birthday in April and since I am trying to be more proactive this year, I started looking for it now. I wanted to buy it from a reputable place since I believe in the "you get what you pay for" principal and since this was a fairly expensive item, I was hoping to find a good sale. And I did! Item is regularly $175 and I got over $50 off so I snagged it!!
