    Civil War?

I find it so interesting that the charges that may sink Trump once and for all originated in Atlanta, GA - a city of vital importance to the Confederacy - but I'm already digressing.

My intent here was to ask - now given charges against Trump in I believe 4 separate jurisdictions.....what do you believe the chances are - realistically - of Trump being incarcerated creating Civil War 2 in the US? Unsettling talk and speculation of such seems to be increasing and it's disconcerting to say the least. I also wonder just what such a War would like like without a marker of geographic significance such as the Mason/Dixon Line?

As always, I have two bags packed and put away and contingency plans of an escape - this from before Trump was elected, true - but now it may be even wiser, depending on how such a War would play out.

So - what is your take? Could such a War realistically take place? What would it look like - how would it be carried out? Rob

Not going to happen. There simply aren’t enough people who care enough.

I'm curious what the critical point for "people who care enough" is though? A very small percentage of the population decided to be uncivil would produce a huge amount of unrest and disruption.

Look at the impact on the D.C. area just from the Beltway Snipers, which was just two guys acting on their own.

A few committed idiots can create difficulties on a transient basis, but does that rise to a level of a history-changing civil war? Back in the late sixties and early seventies, various little groups gave themselves colorful names, robbed banks and planted bombs; but nobody (except maybe them) mistook their activities for a civil war.

I think it takes more to make a war than people ranting on social media and cable TV. When, say 10% of the population leave their couches to take up arms I’ll worry about a civil war.

What percentage of American's showed up at the capitol on January 6th? Was there a civil war? I think there is your math.

    I don’t think it’s a possibility at all.

I don't picture anything close to civil war. However the Trump rhetoric, as we've seen, does have a motivating appeal to wackos on the far right. I could definitely picture isolated pockets of violent civil unrest.

    Hmmm.

In 2020, ~74 million people voted for Trump.

If 1% of those 74 million are willing to become uncivil, that's 740,000 people.

    If 1-in-a-million, that's 74 people.

Roughly 2000 people entered the Capitol on Jan 6 in an attempt to overthrow the US government.

There were 14 people charged with the Gretchen Whitmer kidnapping plot, an attempt to overthrow the government of the state of Michigan.

There might be small numbers on the fringes of both sides who would like something to happen, but I highly doubt more than that.

So, you are you saying you think this number, 740,000, would be willing commit mayhem?

hmmmm, I know the pushback Trans critical leaders get when they express concern thst transwomen (i.e. natal men) are incarcerated in women’s prisons. A MUCH higher percentage than 1% of those folks are criminally charged for sex crimes snd domestic violence. But when that idea with those numbers are spoken, the reaction is “TERF TERF TERF” and “How dare you insinuate transwomen are sexual predators?” And etc.

Your scenario is far into theorectical. Mine, not so much.
