Grass-fed beef is typically leaner with less fat and marbeling and requires slightly different cooking methods. But for many reasons, grass-fed is better because cows raised and "finished" on grass rather than grain are usually treated more humanely (i.e., raised in pastures rather than concentrated feedlots). Also, while there is no proof that grass-fed is healthier for you, it does have a higher concentration of omega-3's, which are very good for you.

A really great book if you are interested in understanding the differences between grass-fed and grain-fed cows is The Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan. FWIW, my husband agrees with you that grass-fed beef doesn't taste good, but I think a lot of it has to do with the lack of information and education about how to cook it.

Well also that beef just sounds bad. I like grass fed beef (I don't eat a ton of red meat to begin with). But although it can be, there is no guarantee that just because it's grass fed it's going to be good quality. Other things matter, percentage fat, gristle, pink slime (sorry), how finely it is ground etc..

We get beef from DH’s brother on his family farm. Those cows are fed a mix of grass and grain. We really like this product.

I understand what grass fed beef is. That was not the issue…. ground meat no matter should be able to crumble and be cooked without large chunks that cannot be broken down. I did take it back this morning without a problem, thankfully.

Haha! Thanks! I’m still having pain(cramps). Sometimes the Motrin doesn’t do it. Had to leave at lunchtime yesterday as I needed to commune with my heating pad.
