I know that if I were exercising my duties as an elected official, and someone tried to interfere with my ability to do so, there would be consequences. Depending on the interference, potential quite swift consequences.

For a start, I can’t see the nobel going to a convicted felon or someone who tried to overthrow our government!

Just our government? Because the first part I think you would revise your statement, aka Nelson Mandela.

Over the weekend, 407 HS codes were added to the list of HS codes subject to steel/aluminum duties. This even includes things such as perfume, which probably includes the bit of metal in the sprayer on the bottle. What this means in practice is that the supplier has to break out the steel/aluminum (and copper) content value from the non-steel/aluminum/copper value. Otherwise, the entire value of the product is hit with the 50% duty.

That seems kind of insane. It reminds me of a movie, Conspiracy, with Stanley Tucci and Kenneth Branagh and Colin Firth. Seems apropos.

That is insane, Tradd. How do people believe that this type of nonsense is NOT going to hit the consumer?

I have no clue. Some people still apparently believe the orange man that the overseas country (exporter) pays the duty.

I think the fact that Obama got the prize and he hasn't is one of his primary motivators.

There may be something to that. However, I asked the question in response to another poster's question of "Nobel Prize for what?" to subtly point out that not so long ago another President was awarded the prize not for anything he had done, but rather for perceived aspirations for what he might do. Given the current President's ongoing efforts to secure peace throughout multiple regions in the world, I would think the answer to her original question would be self evident.
