I went to the one in Santa Fe yesterday. I correctly estimated about 400 people. I have to admit I was a little disapointed at the seeming lack of organization though I knew it was going to be fairly organic FaceBook -Social Media thing with the lack of actual planning. I kept wishing for someone (or someones) with a loud bullhorn to lead the people into something that looked a bit more formidable. There was a lot of just milling about somewhat aimlessly. There were several different types of protests going on: The "Hey Hey Ho Ho Elon Musk Has Got To Go" group (me), the Dump Trump faction, LBGTQ & Trans group and a loud Free Palestine contingent (who I heard protests every Wednesday at the RoundHouse).
It's just so hard to know how to be even the least little bit effective when we are up against so much that is out of our control. I decided to go basically to lend my physical body to help show that a lot of people are very against what is going on. I hope these protests keep growing each week. Santa Fe is a small blue city in a small population state. Protesting is much different in a large city, or a large red city in a large red state.
My husband spoke on the bullhorn yesterday at ours in Augusta. Good for you for going, Siouz.
It was 17 yesterday and people were so bundled up-- really impressive that people show up. I hope your Santa Fe protests keep growing, too. Augusta protest Feb 5.jpg You know who would have gone yesterday? Jane. RIP.
They certainly didn’t seem to move the media coverage needle that much. Certainly not enough to merit a “!”. The weather wasn’t in their favor in many places; and holding it on a Wednesday would force prospective protestors to decide if it was worth burning a vacation day.
EVERY state protested! You sound like trump… worried about crowd size?
