I’m sure you have thoroughly investigated citizenship requirements for Austria for someone like you, born to an Austrian citizen.

I assume based on the information in the link below that because you were born before 1983, you are not eligible? Is that right? Was your father American? Were your parents married? It seems capricious to me that the superior country of Austria would make an arbitrary decision hinging on the year 1983. And sexist, to boot, when only your father‘s citizenship status counts prior to 1983.

But such are the superior citizenship rules for the superior country of Austria.
